Accident
FedEx 910 landed on the Fort Lauderdale 10L runway at 17:50 local time (21:50Z). The tower reported the port side CF6 engine appeared on fire. The aircraft stopped about 2,000 meters (6,580 feet) on the runway and beyond the left bank with the left main gear collapsing and the left wing burning. The airport closed all runways while emergency services responded to extinguish the fire. Both crew members were not injured, but the aircraft received major damage. The NTSB sent five investigators on the spot and opened the investigation.
On 31 October, the NTSB reported that the left main gear failed after landing and during launch. The left and left wing engines scrape the runway and the plane turns left and stops some of the runway. Both crew members fled through the right cockpit window using a runaway strap. No injuries were reported. Voice data recorders and cockpit flight were taken to the NTSB lab in Washington for analysis. After runway inspection, NTSB re-controlled the runway to Fort Lauderdale Airport.
