Debut (1979)

Kerry is the son of wrestler Fritz Von Erich. His brothers, David, Kevin, Mike, and Chris, are also wrestlers. Kerry also stands out in high school track and field and has record-breaking discs. He debuted in the promotion of his father, NWA Texas/Big Time Wrestling on May 7, 1979 against Paul Perschmann. In Big Time Wrestling, he holds many Texas Tag Team and American Tag Team.

American Heavyweight Champion and American Tag Team Champion (1980-1983)

Most of Kerry's fame was made in Texas's World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW), where he was nicknamed "The Modern Day Warrior." On December 28, 1980, his first NWA American Heavyweight Championship championship came after he defeated Gino Hernandez for an empty title. He lost the title to Ken Patera before winning the second US NWA Heavyweight Class Championship of The Masked Superstar. In May and June 1981, Kerry swapped the NWA American Heavyweight Championship with Ernie Ladd. On October 25, he teamed up with Terry Orndorff and they defeated The Great Kabuki and Chan Chung to win the Tag Team NWA Championship of America. After having a short angle as a single wrestler, he begins to work with his brother, Kevin. On March 15, 1982, the brothers wrestled with Gary Hart and King Kong Bundy to double disqualification. On June 4, Von Erich defeated the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Harley Race, lifting him to the main event status.

Kerry begins hostile to the NWA World Weight Rich Ric Flair Champion. On August 15, he got his first shot on the NWA title against Flair at WCCW Christmas Star Wars (1982) in two of three games down, which Flair won to defend his title. On December 25, Kerry earned his next title against Flair in a disqualified steel enclosure game, with Michael "P.S." Hayes, as a special guest referee. Great Freebirds helped Kerry win the game, but he refused to take their help and said he did not want to win by cheating. Terry Gordy slams the cage door on Kerry's head, which causes Flair to win the game and defend the title. This culminated in a historic feud between Von Erichs and Freebirds that lasted for more than five years.

NWA World Heavyweight Champion and feud with The Fabulous Freebirds (1983-1984)

On June 17, 1983, he teamed up with Bruiser Brody to defeat the Extraordinary Freebirds for the NWA American Tag Team Championship. On July 4, Kerry and his brothers, Kevin and David defeated the Extraordinary Freebirds in two of their three matches to win the NPT Texas Six-Man Team Championship. They lost the title back to the Freebirds on 12 August. On September 5, the brothers took Extraordinary Freebirds in a rematch for the title; Freebirds defend their title by clamping Kerry. On November 24th, Kerry defeated losing Michael Hayes from a Texas cage game.

On December 2nd, Von Erichs defeated the Freebirds for their second NWA Six-Man Box Championship. On December 25, Kerry defeated Kamala with a disqualification. On January 30, 1984, he worked with his brothers Mike and David against the Extraordinary Freebirds in a six-player team match, which Von Erichs lost for disqualification.

Kerry's greatest career peak was on May 6, 1984, when he defeated "Alam Boy" Ric Flair in a historic match, ahead of over 45,000 fans at the Texas Stadium to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Kerry's victory was a tribute to her brother David, who had died three months earlier and for whom the show, David Von Erich's Memorial Parade of Champions, was named. He lost the belt 18 days later in Yokosuka, Japan, back to Flair in a bout that was marred by controversy: Von Erich's leg was on the bottom ropes after the rollup was reversed, but the referee ignored this and made the count. Kerry has the world's 12th shortest NWA title in history. In fact, the NWA only permitted Kerry to rule briefly, and was told to take the belt off to Flair before the Night of Champions meeting on May 29 between Flair and Ricky Steamboat.

On July 4, Von Erichs lost six male tag titles to the Extraordinary Freebirds. The title was held due to Freebirds victory after the annoyance by Killer Khan. On September 3, they defeated the Freebirds at the Loss Leaves Texas armored enclosure of the game for all four men's title tag rulers.

Next fate (1984-1989)

After ending their rivalry with Fabulous Freebirds, the Von Erich brothers next clashed with Gino Hernandez, Chris Adams, and Jake Roberts. The corner of Kerry with Adams was born from Adams' corner with his brother Kevin, who started on September 28, 1984 (when Adams turned his heels against Kevin after losing the tag team). In keeping with the kayfabe provisions, Adams and Kerry wrestled as tag teams two days later in San Antonio, because the heel shifts have not aired on television. On October 27, 1984, Hernandez, Adams, and Roberts beat Von Erichs to win Six Tag Tag Title in a match that saw Bobby Fulton replace the injured Kevin. On October 29, he defeated Gino Hernandez for the fifth NWA American Heavyweight Championship. On November 22, he teamed up with Iceman Parsons to defeat Jake Roberts and Kelly Kiniski. He then refereed the Texas Deathmatch between longtime rivals Terry Gordy and Killer Khan, whom Gordy won, through Kerry's decision. On December 25th, Kerry was again shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, a title he had lost a few months ago. Champion Ric Flair was deliberately disqualified to defend the title. On December 31st, Von Erichs defeated Hernandez, Roberts, and Adams to regain their NWA Six-Man Tag Team Title.

During his last days at the WCCW, Kerry Von Erich will be involved in a feud with Jerry "The King" Lawler (AWA World Lightweight Champion) on who will be an Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Kerry later became WCWA (World Class' final name used before USWA days) Heavyweight Champion They will meet at an interpromotional event called SuperClash III to resolve the dispute Before this game, Kerry accidentally cut off his arm causing him to bleed During the match, he also received a head injury. When he then had Lawler in the clawhold on the mattress with Lawler's shoulders down, the referee saw blood on Kerry's head, thinking it was excessive, and quit the game. The crowd thought Kerry won by surrender but "due to excessive bleeding" the referee stopped the match and was awarded the decision and the WCWA Championship for Jerry Lawler. This would mark the end of the Kerry WCWA run.

St. Louis Wrestling Club (1983)

He also works for St. Louis Wrestling Club in 1983, where he once held the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Championship.

The American Wrestling Association (1989-1990)

Kerry continued to wrestle at the Dallas Sportatorium under the banner of USWA, which acquired the World Class in early 1989. He formed a tag team with Jeff Jarrett, and won the Texas heavyweight title twice. In 1990, Kerry clashed violently with Matt Borne, who turned the heels during a chain interview; during one game, both struggled outside the Sportatorium into the parking lot during a thunderstorm. The manager Percy Pringle also turned his heels, and started feuding with Kerry. During the peak of their point of view, Kerry suddenly left USWA/World Class and joined WWF, leaving the Von Erich tradition to Kevin's brother (who is considered semi-active) and Chris. Honorary Von Erich "Gentleman" Chris Adams later became the main headliner of the Sportatorium, clashing with Pringle, Steve Austin, and Jeannie Clark. The World Class retired from USWA soon after, but without Kerry, manager Gary Hart, and lack of television and revenue, the World Class ceased to operate three months later.

World Wrestling Federation

Intercontinental Champion (1990)

In mid-1990, Von Erich signed a contract with World Wrestling Federation Vince McMahon (WWF). He debuted on July 28, 1990 from the Main Event Saturday Night as a fan favorite under the name ring (when openly acknowledged as Kerry Von Erich by the announcer), beating Buddy Rose, who happened to be his first opponent in his career. In SummerSlam, Tornado replaces the injured Brutus Beefcake and defeats Mr. Perfect to win the Intercontinental Championship. After he became champion, Tornado defended his title for three months including a match against Haku on October 13th Main Event Saturday night before losing his title back to former champion. Perfect in a rematch on December 15 (recorded 19 November) edition of Superstars . Von Erich lost this match, and the title was Perfect due to alleged interference from Ted DiBiase.

At the Survivor Series in 1990, while still Intercontinental Champion, he wrestled in a Survivor Series match where he teamed up with WWF Champion The Ultimate Warrior (formerly The Dingo Warrior in World Class) and Legion of Doom (Eagle and Animal). He was knocked out by old rival Mr. Perfect, but his team won the game.

Several years later (1991-1992)

At Royal Rumble in 1991, he participated in a Royal Rumble match in which he entered fifth and was eliminated by The Undertaker after lasting nearly half an hour. He made his WrestleMania debut on WrestleMania VII, defeating Dino Bravo following the Tornado Punch . Von Erich continued to be strongly encouraged for the first half of 1991 and did not suffer another defeat until 17 August 1991 when he was defeated by The Warlord in Landover, MD. At SummerSlam, he teamed up with British Bulldog and Ricky Steamboat in a six-player team match to beat the Warlord and Power and Glory teams (Paul Roma and Hercules).

In October 1991, Von Erich renewed his old rivalry with Ric Flair, becoming the first to confront him when the NWA World Champion joined WWF. Flair defeated Von Erich several times during the WWF tour in the UK that month. Later that month "The Texas Tornado" suffered its first oblique defeat when he was crammed by The Undertaker in less than four minutes on the November 10 episode of Prime Time Wrestling. In the Survivor Series, he collaborated with Sgt. Slaughter, Jim Duggan, and Tito Santana against Colonel Mustafa, The Berzerker, Skinner, and Hercules. He did not eliminate anyone, but his entire team survived. He made his last pay-per-view (PPV) appearance at Royal Rumble in 1992; he participated in the Royal Rumble match for the empty WWF Heavy World Championships. He was knocked out by the eventual winner Ric Flair, the man Von Erich beat eight years earlier for the NWA World Class Championship. Kerry's impulse continued to subside in early 1992. He was relegated to a show house dispute with Skinner where he came out as the winner; in February he started a series of home events with Rick Martel and never won.

After a few months absence, Von Erich returned to action after WrestleMania VIII and defeated Marc Roberts on the April 20 episode Superstars . But he now finds himself as the opening card action programmed against low-level competition such as Barry Horowitz, Kato, and Skinner. While unbeaten against them in several games, Von Erich was unable to return to the fight as he suffered some losses against Rick Martel, Nailz, and Kamala and then Von Erich left WWF in August 1992.

Wrestling Federation United States and the Global Wrestling Federation (1992-1993)

Kerry returned to Texas and claimed the USWF Texas Heavyweight Championship, which he lost to Dynamite Dixon in November. This will be Kerry's last championship belt. Kerry returned to Dallas to compete in the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF), where he began working with his former rival Chris Adams. Kerry's last match took place on February 12, 1993. It was a tag team match at GWF at the Sportatory that Kerry and Chris Adams lost via disqualification to Johnny Mantell and Black Bart.

Motorcycle accident and suicide

On June 4, 1986, Kerry had a motorcycle accident that nearly ended her life. She suffered from hip dislocation and her injured right leg. The doctor can not save his right leg, eventually sprinkle it. According to his brother Kevin, Kerry injures his leg after surgery by trying to walk on it prematurely, thus forcing the doctor to amputate. He was able to continue wrestling after an accident with his prosthesis and until his death, keep the amputation secret to the majority of fans and fellow wrestlers, even going to extreme bathing with his boots. However, Roddy Piper states in his autobiography: "We are the best friends In fact, he feels comfortable enough to sit with me at a hotel and shoot the wind with his prosthetic."

After amputation of his legs, Kerry became an addict to pain killers, followed by several drug problems. Among many of them are two arrests, the first of which resulted in probation. One day after being indicted on a second charge, which is likely to result in widespread prison time (being a violation of his probation), Kerry committed suicide with a single shot to the heart with a.44 caliber gun on February 18, 1993 at his father's farm in Denton County, Texas.

Bret Hart states in his biography ("My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling") that Kerry had told him months earlier about his plans, that he wanted to follow his late three brothers (two of whom had committed suicide) and that they called him. His marriage had fallen apart too and according to Hart, Von Erich believed his death was inevitable.

The posthumous induction at WWE Hall of Fame

On March 16, 2009, WWE.com announced that the Von Erich family would be inducted into the 2009 WWE Hall of Fame class by longtime rival, Michael Hayes. The inaugurated family members are Fritz, Kevin, David, Kerry, Mike, and Chris Von Erich. Kevin received a ring for his father, Fritz, and each of his brothers. WWE made two Hall of Fame rings with Kerry Von Erich's written name in the interior presented by Kevin Von Erich to Kerry, Hollie and Lacey's daughters, attending with their mother Cathy (Kerry's ex-wife). The event was held close to Von Erichs' home at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on April 4, 2009.
