Life and careers
1971-1990: Little
Lopes was born in 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of Wanda Denise (nÃÆ' à © e Andino), a tailor, and Ronald Lopes Sr., a staff sergeant of the US Army, He of Cape Verdean, Portuguese & African American descent. He has a younger brother, Ronald Jr., and a younger sister, Raina Anitra (who professionally runs by Reigndrop). Lopes said his father was "very strict, very dominating" and that he treated the family like they were in a "training camp". He is also a "talented musician" and plays harmonica, clarinet, piano, and saxophone.
Lopes's parents parted when he was still at school, and he was raised by his father's paternal grandmother for the last years of his childhood. He started playing with a toy keyboard at the age of five, and then composed his own songs. At the age of 10, he formed The Lopes Kids musical trio with his brothers, who sang gospel songs at local events and churches. She studied at Philadelphia High School for Girls.
1990-1998: TLC
At the age of 19, after hearing the casting call open to a new girl group through his girlfriend, Lopes moved to Atlanta to audition. Originally started as a female trio called 2nd Nature, the group changed its name to TLC, derived from the first initials of its members at the time: Tionne, Lisa and Crystal. Things did not work with Crystal Jones, and TLC manager Perri "Pebbles" Reid brought backup dancer Damian Dame Rozonda Thomas as the third member of the group. To retain the band's original name, Rozonda needed a name that began with C, and became Chilli, the name chosen by Lopes. Bandmate Tionne Watkins became T-Boz, derived from the first letter of his first name and "Boz" (slang for "boss"). Lopes was given the name "Left Eye" after the praise of a man who once told him that he was attracted to him because of his left eye. Lopes emphasized his nickname by wearing sunglasses with a left lens covered with a condom, in accordance with the group's secure sex promotion, wearing a black line under his left eye, and finally pierced his left eyebrow.
The group arrived in the music scene in 1992 with the album Ooooooohhh... At Ujung TLC . With four singles, it sold six million copies worldwide, leading to the group being a household name. Two years later CrazySexyCool was released, selling over 23 million copies worldwide, and cemented TLC as one of the greatest women's groups of all time. TLC's third album, FanMail , was released in 1999 and sold over 14 million copies worldwide. The title is a tribute to loyal TLC fans and his arm contains the names of hundreds of them as "thank you".
During the recording of FanMail , public conflicts begin among group members. In the May 1999 edition of Vibe , Lopes said, "I've graduated from this era, I can not stand 100 percent behind this TLC project and the music that should represent me." In response to Lopes' comments, Watkins and Thomas told Entertainment Weekly that Lopes "did not respect the whole group" and "Left Eye only cares about the Left Eye." In response, Lopes sent a reply via Entertainment Weekly which issued a "challenge" to Watkins and Thomas to release a solo album and let the public decide who the "biggest" TLC members are:
I challenged Tionne Watkins (T-Boz) and Rozonda Thomas (Chilli) to an album called "The Challenge"... a 3-CD set containing three solo albums. Every [album]... will belong to record label on October 1, 2000... I also challenge Dallas 'The Manipulator' Austin to produce all the material and do it at a fraction of its normal value. As I think about it, I'm sure LaFace would not mind throwing a $ 1.5 million prize for the winner.
T-Boz and Chilli refused to accept the challenge, though Lopes always maintained it was a great idea. Everything was heated among women for some time, with Thomas speaking out against Lopes, calling his "selfish," "evil," and "heartless" antics. TLC then overcame these fights by saying that they are very similar to sisters who have their occasional disapproval and then as Lisa says, "It's deeper than working relationships. We have feelings for each other, which is why we're so angry at each other. I usually say that you can not hate someone unless you love them, so we love each other, that's the problem. "
1998-2002: Solo Career
In 1998, Lopes hosted a short MTV series, The Cut, in which a handful of pop stars, rapper, and rock bands aspire to compete against each other in front of the jury. The event winner, who eventually became a male-female rap duo named Silky, promised a record deal and funding to produce a music video, which would then enter MTV's heavy rotation. Anastacia then unknown finished in third place, but eventually secured a record deal after Lopes and three judges were impressed by his performance.
After the release of FanMail , Lopes began to expand his solo career. She became the lead rapper on several singles, including Spice Girl Melanie C "Never Be the Same Again", which topped the charts in 35 countries, including Britain. He also appeared on "U Know What's Up", the first single from Donell Jones's second album, Where I Want to Be , and he tapped a verse on "Space Cowboy" with NSYNC on their 2000 album. , No Strings Attached . On October 4, 2000, Lopes hosted the MOBO Awards in the UK with Trevor Nelson, where he also performed "U Know What's Up" with Jones. He also collaborated on "Gimme Some" by Toni Braxton for his 2000 album The Heat. She previously appeared in Keith Sweat's song "How Do You Like It". In 2001, he appeared in an ad for Gap. Their self-titled debut album is an executive produced by Lopes, who also made cameo appearances in their music video "808" and also tapped in their second music video "I Do". Lopes also developed and promoted another new band called Egypt. They work with Lopes on their second album with a new nickname, N.I.N.A. , which means New Identity Not Applicable.

Lopes dreamed of making new artist can record music at low cost, in the upscale studio at home. His family continues to operate it and fill it with new equipment.
Supernova
Lopes spent much of his free time after completing TLC's first horn tour, FanMail Tour, recording his debut solo album, Supernova . This includes a song titled "A New Star is Born", dedicated to his late father. She told MTV News:
The song is dedicated to all those who have loved ones who have died. It says that there is no such thing as death. We can call it transformation because of the lack of better words, but as scientists would say, 'Every atom once a star is now in you.' It's in your body. So, in that song I pretty much followed the idea.... I do not care what happens or what people think about death, it does not matter. We all share the same space.
Other tracks include other personal issues, including his relationship with NFL football player Andre Rison. In 1994, before the start of Rison's fifth and final season with Falcons, Lopes accidentally set fire to Rison's big house in Atlanta. Among the 13 album tracks is also a posthumous duet with Tupac Shakur collected from a large cache of unreleased recordings made before his murder in 1996. Originally scheduled for release on the date coincides with the 11th anniversary of the death of his grandfather, Arista. The record decided to postpone and then cancel the American release. The album was finally released in August 2001 in various foreign countries. Japanese imports include a bonus track called "Friends", which will then be sampled for "Give It to Me While It's Hot" on TLC's fourth album 3D .
