Dead Zone , aka The Dead Zone of Stephen King (in the US) is an American science fiction television drama series/starring Anthony Michael Hall as Johnny Smith, who discovered he had developed psychic abilities after a coma. The show, credited as "by the character" of Stephen King's 1979 novel by the same name, first aired in 2002, and produced by Lionsgate Television and CBS Paramount Network Television (Paramount Network Television (2002-06) for the USA Network.

The show was originally assigned to UPN, but the network dropped the show and was taken by the United States. The series was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada for its first five seasons. The sixth and final season was billed as "The season that changed everything" and the production was moved to Montreal.

Dead Zone is expected to be updated for the seventh season but due to low ratings and high production costs, the series was canceled in December 2007 without the proper final series.

Some rumors spread that Syfy would take the series after being canceled by the US, but no plan worked. Rumors about movies made for TV all faded over time.

Plot

Little town lecturer Johnny Smith was involved in a car accident that kept him in a coma for about six years. Once regained consciousness, Johnny begins to have a vision of the past and the future triggered by touching the goods or people; doctors connect vision with activity in the previously unused brain "dead zone" that seeks to compensate for the interference function of the injured part of the accident. Johnny also learns that his fiance, Sarah, gave birth to his son temporarily after the accident, but has since married another man.

The first season averaged 6.4 million viewers while the four seasons averaged 3.4 million and the season average six 2.1 million. The inaugural series scored 6.4 million viewers, holding the record for the highest premiere broadcast on the USA Network, until it was surpassed by the 4400 The 4400 premiere that attracted 7.4 million viewers.

  • In the first episode, "Wheel of Fortune," the music class practiced the song "Mr. Sandman." In the same episode, Johnny and Sarah flirted in her car to "Sleep Walk", a song by Santo & amp; Johnny, who is also featured in the movie Stephen King Sleepwalker.

DVD release

Lionsgate Home Entertainment has released all 6 Seasons of the Dead Zone on DVD in Region 1, while CBS Home Entertainment (distributed by Paramount) has also released all 6 seasons in Region 2.

On June 26th, 2012, Lionsgate Home Entertainment released the full series which is only available on DVD in Canada.
