What Is Travel Insurance and Do I Need to Buy It?
src: www.moneycrashers.com

Travel insurance is insurance intended to cover medical expenses, travel cancellation, baggage loss, aviation accidents and other losses incurred while traveling,

Travel insurance can usually be arranged at the time of booking to cover exactly the duration of the trip, or the "multi-travel" policy may include unlimited travel within a certain period of time. Some policies offer lower and higher medical cost options; which is higher especially for countries that have high medical costs, such as the United States.

Some credit card issuers offer automatic travel insurance if travel arrangements are paid for using their credit card, but this policy is general and special attention must be taken to take into account personal requirements. There are many travel insurance policies available on the market, but care must be taken of what events are covered by each policy, and what exclusions, exclusions, and limits apply, in addition to other issues.

General exceptions

General exemptions in travel insurance policies include pre-existing medical conditions, non-sequential vehicle operations, traveling for the purpose of receiving medical treatment, surgery or elective care, or injury or illness caused by alcohol, drug use or reckless behavior, including involvement in some sports activities. Events arising from war and terrorism are usually excluded, but most policies allow the cancellation of travel arising out of war or acts of terrorism that meet the policy criteria.

Insurance companies that issue new policies will often exclude circumstances based on ongoing events, such as typhoons or floods. Long-term exceptions may be announced for events such as the Gunung Agung volcano Bali excluded from the cover for the foreseeable future, (such as the end of 2017).

Some policies exclude travel to specific countries, or parts of countries, where greater risks are expected. These determinations are often made based on government official travel advice from organizations such as the US Department of State or the Department of Foreign Affairs of Australia.

Travel insurance can also provide useful, often 24-hour, 7-day-a-week services that may include concierge services and emergency travel assistance. Pre-existing medical conditions must be stated before the start date of the trip. The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) provides the right to care in state-run hospitals in the EU and Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland countries, but this is not a substitute for travel insurance.
