Histori

Daniel B. Trimper and his wife, Margaret, the great-grandfather of the current president and park manager (Gordon Brooks Trimper) arrived in Ocean City in 1890. In 1893 they were owners of boardwalk properties between South Division and South First Streets, including two hotels : The Eastern Shore and Sea Bright.

Rebuilding the Sunny Sea in 1900 following a severe thunderstorm, Trimpers modeled a new structure at Windsor Castle of Great Britain. Two hotels along with theaters and amusement parks became known as Windsor Resorts.

The 1912 purchase also adds to the historic significance of Trimper's Rides. That year Daniel Trimper bought a large carousel from Herschell-Spillman Company in North Tonawanda, NY. It was 50 feet in diameter with the uniqueness that came from the only other carousel made by the company at that time that had been sent to Coney Island, and that one was later destroyed by fire.

Forty-five carousel animals, three trains and one rocking chair were driven by a steam engine; The rides initially cost only nickel. A hundred years later, travel (now electrified) costs four tickets, or $ 2.00. Classified as one of the oldest carousel still operating in the country, carousel includes horse standing and jumping up and jumping horses, a donkey, zebras, cats, dogs, pigs, frogs, roosters, rabbits, deer, lions, tigers, ostriches , camels, giraffes, and dragons.

Over the years, Trimpers added many rides; some of these rides also offer historic significance such as the smaller kiddie carousel and date to the 1920s as do the kiddie ferris wheels. All the rides are kept in excellent working condition. If it were not for gold attachment, beautifully carved handicrafts or wood versus metal, it would be difficult to know that parents - and grandparents - who, as children, once riding the same rides now bring their offspring to do the same.

Ten Trimper boys and their descendants also play an important role in the political life of Ocean City and other businesses. Son Trimper, Daniel, Jr., manages Windsor Resort Corporation after the death of his father, and served as Mayor of Ocean City for 16 years. A great-grandson, Daniel IV, also serves on the City Council and as President of the Council. Grandson Granville D. Trimper, who became a corporate manager in 1980, served on the City Council for 18 years, many of them as President of the Council; he also served as Mayor. Granville served at Worcester County Commissioner as President for 4 years. In 2000 He was elected Citizen of the Year (Millennium) by the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce.

The Rides

The Indoor Area contains most of the rides for younger children. It plays host to a collection of antique garden memorabilia and trinkets, ranging from antique ticket booths, to antique travel operations. The main attractions inside this section of the building are:

  • A large collection of vintage rides in William F. Mangels kiddie style
  • Around 1912 Herschell-Spillman Carousel with horses, zebra, dragons, roosters, and other animals and three trains
  • Bumper Car Trip
  • Shooting Gallery

The park's dark ride, "The Haunted House", was built by Bill Tracy in 1964 as a 1 level attraction on many overlooking the boardwalk lane. The journey was later expanded when nearby Playland Park closed, leaving behind their own dark Tracy journey, "Ghost Ship", up for grabs. Trimper enters the trick of the trip by adding a second level to the ride, making it twice as long. The journey was originally believed to have been opened in 1962, but after the discovery of recent correspondence related to travel, the opening year was actually found to be two years later. The trip is said to be Granville Trimper's favorite.

Three outdoor areas, where most of the rides are located, are open during the summer. Among the rides are:

  • "The Tidal Wave", 126 feet (38 m) looping roller coaster
  • "Pirates Cove", Bill Tracy is designed to explore delightful homes; one of the two remaining in the world
  • "Aladdin Lamp", other fun houses (retired from commission January 10, 2018)
  • A Mirror Maze
  • "Wacky Worm", a family roller coaster
  • "The Freakout", a thrilling pendulum sensation
  • "The Rock N Roll", the fast-moving Matterhorn rides
  • Zipper Zippers
  • A Tilt-A-Whirl
  • A Cup Tea Ride
  • Merry Mixer
