Careers

In the 1980s, Pazienza built a reputation along the East Coast, defeating opponents like Melvin Paul (KO 2), Joe Frazier Jr. (TKO 7), Harry Arroyo (UD 10), Nelson Bolanos (TKO 6), and Roberto Elizondo (KO in 10). His first world title bout took place on June 7, 1987, in Providence, Rhode Island, where he surpassed Greg Haugen for 15 rounds to become IBF World Lightweight Champion. The pair will meet twice again: Haugen restored the title in an immediate rematch, and Pazienza is in effect in a 10-lap decision in their rubber match in 1990.

Pazienza failed to win a title in the junior welterweight division: in 1988, against WBC World Champion Roger Mayweather and in 1990, against WBO Champion Hector "Macho" Camacho and WBA World Champion Loreto Garza.

In 1991, Pazienza moved to the junior middle class division. In his first bout in the junior middle class, he won the USBA Championship against Ron Amundsen in a 12-round decision. He beat WBA World champion Jr. Middleweight Gilbert Dele with a 12-lap TKO in Providence, became the second boxer in boxing history to win the light and middle-class middle class championships.

Pazienza was forced to give up his title due to a serious car accident in which his neck was broken. The doctor told him that he might never walk again and would never fight again. Pazienza had to wear a medical device called Halo, a circular metal clamp screwed into the skull at four points and supported by four metal bars. He has Halo who slept on his skull for three months, during which time he maintained his sports regimen against the doctor's orders. He returned to the ring thirteen months after the accident and defeated WBC World Jr. champion. Middleweight's future Luis Santana with a 10-round decision.

After the Santana fight, Pazienza went on to defeat Brett Lally by the 6th round TKO and then, at another TKO, former world champion Lloyd Honeyghan in the 10th round. Pazienza went on to win an empty IBO Middleweight World title in 1993 with a 11th round knockout over Dan Sherry. Pazienza then went on to defeat Roberto Duran twice, either through a decision, with the IBC Super Middleweight Title on the second line.

In June 1995, Pazienza lost his world title bid against IBF World Super Middleweight Champion Roy Jones Jr. In 1996, Pazienza ultimately incurred losses only on the Rosenblatt Fund (knockouts in four rounds) to win the vacant WBU Super Middleweight World Championship.

In early 2001, Pazienza officially changed its last name to Paz. In 2002, he lost to WBC World Super Middleweight Champion Eric Lucas in what would be his final shot in the world title. In 2004, Paz fought in his final battle, defeating Tocker Pudwill through a round 10 round decision. His record stood at 50-10, with 30 wins with a knockout and five world titles (IBF Lightweight Championships, WBA Jr. Middleweight Championships, IBO Super Middleweight Championship, IBC Super Middleweight Championship, and WBU Super Middleweight Championship). He also won the title of USBA.
