History
IFA's precursor agency - dedicated to cleaning dust - was established in 1935 and rebuilt in 1953. In 1976, the institute for noise reduction in Mainz was included. In 1980, the institute - later named BIA - moved to Sankt Augustin near Bonn. In 2003, the name was changed to BGIA and in 2007 the institute earned its current name at the time of integration of the German social injury insurance agency in the commercial and public sectors. Since the beginning of 2010 the shortened appointment is IFA.
