Plot

While driving at night along the northern coast of California, architects Dan Merrick (Tom Berenger) and wife Judith (Greta Scacchi) were involved in a car accident. And suffered severe injuries and brain trauma, which resulted in psychogenic amnesia. After extensive plastic surgery, Dan returned home with Judith's attention.

And rely on people close to him to help him recover his past, including his business partner, Jeb Scott (Corbin Bernsen) and Jeb's wife, Jenny (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer). And often experience flashbacks that he believed to be the events that caused car accidents.

And find the difference in the story about her old self. She stumbled on the pictures of Judith sleeping with another man. And find an expensive bill to the pet store and follow up with its owner, Gus Klein (Bob Hoskins). Gus says payments for services are provided as private investigators to follow Judith, and it reveals she was having an affair with Jack Stanton (Scott Getlin).

Judith arranged a meeting with Stanton and Dan followed her. Judith stopped at the old shipwreck that was scheduled to be moved by Dan's company. Assuming the wreck is the key to remembering his past, Dan has removed his suspension.

Jeb's wife, Jenny, accused Judith of plotting the accident to get rid of Dan. When he works with Gus to keep an eye on his wife by wiretapping, Dan follows him to a hotel where he and Stanton should meet, but Stanton goes and catches up later through the wooded area. After the shot was fired from Stanton's car, Dan and Gus crashed as Stanton ran away.

That night at home, And arm yourself and wait. At gunpoint, an intruder is revealed as Judith disguised as Stanton. He explains that Stanton was actually dead, killed by Dan on the night of the accident. Judith intends to stop her affair with Stanton. Judith says she and Dan cover the murder by throwing Stanton's body on a shipwreck. When Dan revealed he delayed the abolition of the ship, Judith became hysterical and suggested they should escape.

And receiving a phone call from Jenny begs him to see it, but when Dan arrives, he finds Jenny dead. He was confronted at gunpoint by Gus, who followed him, thinking Dan must have killed Stanton. Pleading for his life, Dan convinces Gus to visit the shipwreck, where they find chemical storage containers. And castrate the body of a man who looks exactly like himself. And realizes he's not Dan Merrick; he is Jack Stanton.

In a flashback, it was revealed that a rude Dan confronts his wife Judith with evidence of his infidelity. He asks for help and Jack rushes to his house, arriving late to prevent him shooting his husband's head. Jack wants to go to the police, but Judith convinces him to cover up the murder and hide Dan's body. After doing that, Jack tells Judith that he wants to get out of the relationship. This angry and disturbed Judith, who drove into a car accident.

Judith had deflected a chemical that dissolved Dan's body, but since it was actually Formaldehyde, she had preserved it. Gus was shot by Judith, and fell into the water. Judith forced Jack to go with him. He drives erratically on the same road from the night of the accident, admits Jenny's murder, says he has found everything and must be killed.

He hides the facts from Jack so he has reasonable rejection. After the accident, she told the plastic surgeon that the man she was with was her husband, Dan. Disturbed by a police helicopter, Judith loses control of the gun, and Jack grabs her, asking her to stop the car. Judith decided to kill them in a suicide car crash. Jack, at the last second, rolls out, as he slumps to his death.

The police helicopter landed, and an injured Gus Klein appeared. Gus survived plunging into the water after being shot thanks to his asthmatic inhaler. The two ride on the helicopter, with Gus referring to Jack as Dan, maybe securing Merrick's luck for him. Helicopter lifted, flying over the burning car at the bottom of the cliff.

However, he went on to say that this quality is "always fun." About.com falls into the last category, calling the ending "end killer twist!" and The Washington Post says, "It would be disastrous to even hint at the end of the film: a critic could be put to death for giving such a surprising ending here Let's say that it blows the top of your head. "Regardless of this division, critics generally regard the film as unexpected and surprising, though whether too clever for its own good is debatable and submitted to viewers.
