Steve Austin (born Steven James Anderson on December 18, 1964, later Steven James Williams ), better known as the " Stone Cold " Steve Austin , is a professional American wrestler, actor, and television host. Professional wrestling veteran journalist Wade Keller says that Austin is "in every conversation for the greatest wrestling action of all time", as well as for "the most profitable and most influential". Austin is currently signed under the Legends contract at WWE.
Austin enjoyed a successful middle card career as "Stunning" Steve Austin in World Championship Wrestling (WCW) 1991-1995. After a brief stint at the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in late 1995, he signed a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). , now WWE) as The Ringmaster. Changed as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin the following year, he gained significant mainstream popularity as an insolent, vulgar beer antihero, who routinely opposed his establishment and boss, chairman of the company Vince McMahon. The Austin character became a "poster boy" from the Attitude Era, a boom period in the WWF business in the 1990s and early 2000s. He also introduced the old "What?" sing in professional wrestling. A number of prominent industry figures, including McMahon, have declared Austin to be the biggest star in the history of WWF/WWE and stressed that it surpassed the popularity of Hulk Hogan.
Austin held 19 championships throughout his wrestling career, as he is a six-time WWF champion, Intercontinental Champion twice and WWF Champion's Team four times - making him the fifth Triple Crown champion in WWE history - while also being twice WCW United States Heavyweight Champion, two times WCW World Television Champion, one time WCW World Tag Team Champion and one time NWA World Tag Team Champion at WCW. He was also the winner of the 1996 King of the Ring tournament as well as Rumbles Royal 1997, 1998 and 2001, making him the only three-time winner of the event. Furthermore, he was awarded a Million Dollar Championship that was not recognized by Ted DiBiase.
Austin has held major pay-per-view events for WWE, including three WrestleManias (XIV, XV, and X-Seven). He was forced to retire from competition in the ring in 2003 due to a series of serious knee injuries and neck injuries. Throughout the remainder of 2003 and 2004, he was featured as Co-General Manager and Sheriff of Raw . Since 2005, he has continued to make occasional appearances, and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009 by Vince McMahon. In 2011, Austin returned to WWE to host a reboot of the reality series Tough Enough .

Professional wrestling career
Early career (1989-1990)
Deciding to become a wrestler, Austin joined the Chris Adams school at the Dallas Sportatorium, where Adams also wrestled for the World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW). Adams's training was purely technical, teaching Austin to move, but nothing related to kayfabe (still a guarded secret at the time) or business. His first lesson in that case came from Tony Falk, the referee in his 1989 WCCW debut televised against Frogman LeBlanc, who called the places to take him to pinfall and paid $ 40.
Originally employed under his real name, he was named Steve Austin by Dutch Mantell booker Mantell during a World Class merger and Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) into the US Wrestling Association (USWA). The name change occurred to avoid confusion with "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, a famous wrestler during that time. Austin then returned to Dallas and was at odds with Adams, who was run by Percy Pringle and accompanied by Jeannie Adams (former boyfriend of Adams and Austin girlfriend at the time).
Austin then left USWA in 1990 and signed a contract with WCW the following year. It was during this time Austin adopted the nickname "Stunning" that followed him to WCW.
World Championship Wrestling
The Dangerous Alliance (1991-1992)
Austin was originally paired with a valet named Lively Veronica, but later joined Jeannie Adams, known as "Lady Blossom". Just weeks after his debut, Austin defeated Bobby Eaton for his first WCW Television World Championship on June 3, 1991 and later that year joined the Dangerously Paul E. Dangerously Alliance. Austin lost World WCW Championship Championships to Barry Windham in a two of three ties to fall on April 27, 1992, but returned the title from Windham on May 23 and enjoyed a second long reign as champions before losing the title to Ricky Steamboat September 2, while the Dangerous Alliance disbanded. soon after that. On Halloween Havoc on October 25, Austin replaced Terry Gordy, teaming up with "Dr. Death" Steve Williams to wrestle Dustin Rhodes and Windham for WCW and the united NWA World Tag Team Championships. The teams grapple with a thirty minute deadline.
Hollywood Blonds and The Stud Stable (1993-1995)
In January 1993, Austin formed a tag team known as The Hollywood Blonds with Brian Pillman. They won the World Tag NWA and WCW World Championships on March 3 by beating Ricky Steamboat and Shane Douglas and holding the title for five months. On June 16th, Blondes faced Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in two of the three title tags of the falling and defeated tag team, but defending the title as an autumn has been determined with disqualification. On August 18th, Austin and Pillman were scheduled to defend their title against Anderson and Paul Rome, but the legitimate injured Pillman was replaced by Steven Regal, with whom Austin lost to Anderson and Rome.
With Pillman still injured, Austin joined Stud Stable's Colonel Robert Parker. After Pillman's return, Austin betrayed him and defeated him in a single game on Clash of the Champions XXV on November 10th. At Starrcade on December 27, Austin defeated Dustin Rhodes in two of three games to fall with two straight falls to win the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. Austin lost the title to Ricky Steamboat on 24 August 1994 and was scheduled to face Steamboat in a rematch for the title at Fall Brawl on Sept. 18, but Steamboat was unable to wrestle with a legitimate back injury and Austin was awarded the title by a loss. His second government with the title ended just minutes later when he lost to Steamboat's substitute, Jim Duggan, in a match that lasted thirty-five seconds. Austin failed to challenge Duggan for the US heavyweight championships in both Halloween Havoc on October 23 and Clash of the Champions XXIX on November 16th.
After returning from a knee injury in early 1995, Austin took part in the tournament for the empty WCW US Heavyweight title, where he beat Duggan through countout in the first half, but lost to Randy Savage in the quarterfinals. In 1995, Austin was fired by WCW Vice President Eric Bischoff after suffering a tricep injury while grappling with a Japanese tour - Bischoff and WCW did not see Austin as a marketable wrestler. In addition, Bischoff considers Austin difficult to work on.
Extreme Wrestling Championships (1995)
Austin was contacted by Paul Heyman of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), who had arranged it at WCW. Heyman hired Austin to interview in the ring because he has not recovered from his injury enough to wrestle.
While at ECW, Austin uses a platform to develop his future "Stone Cold" persona, as well as a series of sketches running across WCW in general and Bischoff in particular, the most remembered in some promos that mock his status as a Nitro host by introducing Monday NyQuil , where he joined "Bongo" (a set of drums, meant to represent Steve "Mongo" McMichael) in promoting the show "where big boys play with each other". Also some wrestlers praise ECW as a place where Austin is developing its micron skills. Austin has praised Heyman as the man who taught him how to cut a promo. While with ECW, Austin is known as "Superstar" Steve Austin and competes with The Sandman and feuds with Mikey Whipwreck.
Whipwreck, who was World Lightweight ECW Champion at the time, beat Austin for the title in November to Remember on 18 November. During this time, Austin knows Whipwreck's final step ( Whipper-Snapper ) and will adopt it and popularize it in later careers as Stone Cold Stunner . Sandman beat Austin and Whipwreck in a threat-threatening match in December to Dismember on December 9 for the ECW World Weightweight Championship. Heyman later stated that he wanted Austin to win the title, but Austin refused because he felt he was more effective "as a hunter, not a hunted one".
World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment/WWE
The Million Dollar Corporation (1995-1996)
Austin joined WWF after Kevin Nash and Jim Ross helped convince WWF owner Vince McMahon to hire him in late 1995. He debuted on the January 8, 1996 episode of Raw and was awarded the Million Dollar Championship by his manager, Ted DiBiase. Austin made his debut on January 15th episode Raw where he defeated Matt Hardy. Initially, Austin wrestled as The Ringmaster, but his full name was recognized by the broadcaster, even though it was not part of his official bill.
When making his first pay-per-view appearance at Royal Rumble on January 21st, where he was 'written' to be in the Final Four, which could give him an early push, Austin failed to save the record ring against Fatu and sneak out the early rings, Ringmaster is weak and ask for change. WWF gave Austin a list with names inspired by "The Iceman" Richard Kuklinski, including Otto Von Ruthless, Ice Dagger, Fang McFrost, and Chilli McFreeze. Austin shaved his bald head and grew his beard, while on March 11 "The Ringmaster" moniker (now just a prefix for his ring name) will be cast for the sake of his most famous nickname, "Stone Cold". The name itself is inspired by a cup of tea, while his personality for a new name is inspired by serial killer Richard Kuklinski. Austin wrestled with Savio Vega on March 11th episode from Raw to double counting, before defeating Vega in WrestleMania's first appearance at WrestleMania XII on March 31st. In In Your House: A Good Friend, Better Enemy in April 28, Austin lost to Vega in a rematch. In In Your House: Beware of Dog on May 26, Austin loses a Caribbean rope match for Vega. In accordance with pre-match conditions, DiBiase was forced to leave the WWF, giving Austin a chance to forge his own way. Austin then tells broadcaster Dok Hendrix that he deliberately lost the match to get rid of DiBiase, who in fact headed to WCW a rival campaign.
Rise to superstardom and hostility with The Hart Foundation (1996-1997)
The rise of Austin into a star began in the 1996 King of the Ring, where he won the King of the Ring tournament by beating Jake "The Snake" Roberts in the final. At that time, Roberts describes a born-again Christian, so after the game, Austin decides a promo that is now famous during his coronation, tells Roberts: "You sit there and you hit your Bible, and you say your prayer, "Go everywhere! Talk about your Psalm, talk about John 3:16... Austin 3:16 says I just flogged your ass! "Austin's win and rising into a star proved to be an unpredictable luck Triple H was originally slated to win the King of the Ring in 1996, but was convicted of the famous Curtain Call incident that had occurred earlier in the year. "Austin 3:16" has finally become one of the most popular slogans in wrestling history and then the slogan became one of the top-selling shirts in the history of WWE products. It is also credited as an iconic moment that started the WWF "Attitude Era".
Austin talks about Bret Hart, challenges him constantly and taunts him endlessly. Hart finally accepted the Austin challenge and returned to WWF in October 1996. In the Survivor Series, in a match to determine the number one contender to the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, Austin lost to Hart when Hart used turnbuckle to push himself backwards when locked in the Million Dollar Dream and pinned Austin (this match will continue to create the foundation for the year-end feud between the two). The match comes hot on the heels of an incident broadcast live on Raw Is War, which sees Austin "getting into" Brian Pillman's home, with Pillman holding a gun. During the 1997 Royal Rumble game, Austin was initially eliminated by Bret Hart, but the officials did not see him, and he slipped back into the ring and got rid of Hart by throwing him over the ropes, winning his own match. This leads to the first major pay-per-view show of WWF Austin's career in In Your House 13: Final Four, after Shawn Michaels suffered a knee injury and left the WWF World Heavyweight Championship suddenly empty. Austin was knocked out earlier than the four-way game in In Your House 13th for the title after injuring his own knee but was involved in a finish that saw Hart win the WWF Heavyweight World Championship fourth, which he lost the following night at Raw Is War. i> to Sycho Sid because of Austin's annoyance, continue his feud with Hart. At WrestleMania 13, Hart beat Austin in a Submission match with Ken Shamrock as a special referee. During the game, Austin has been cut and bleeding from his face, but he still refuses to get out when Hart is locked in his Sharpshooter. Austin finally fainted from blood loss, still held in the Sharpshooter, and lost the match. After the bell, Hart continues to hold the Sharpshooter in Austin, which despite his injuries refuses help back into the locker room, thus turning Hart's heel and babyface Austin in a rare double turn. However, Austin describes anti-heroes instead of the traditional babyface. Austin finally took revenge on Hart at the main show In Your House 14: Revenge of the 'Taker, in a match to determine the number one contender to The Undertaker's World Heavyweight Championship WWF. Austin won when Hart was disqualified for help from The British Bulldog, earning him the title against The Undertaker at In Your House 15: A Cold Day In Hell. Austin faces Hart once again in a street battle on the April 21st episode of Raw Is War, injuring his opponent's leg with a steel chair during the fight. The game was not taken into account, but Austin kept beating Hart when she was on a stretcher behind an ambulance. On a Cold Day In Hell, Austin brought The Undertaker with the Cold Stunner Stone, but was distracted by the timely interruption on the part of Brian Pillman, old tag team partner from Austin, who rang the bell before Austin got the cover, Undertaker then nailed Austin with Tombstone Piledriver and achieve victory from distraction.
During this time, Austin found a way to win the WWF Team Tag Championship on two separate occasions. On May 26, 1997, Austin and Shawn Michaels defeated Owen Hart and The British Bulldog for the title. They held the title until July 14, before Michaels was forced to vacate through injury. On the same evening, a tournament was held to determine who was going to face Austin and the partners he chose for an empty championship. Hart and Bulldog won the tournament, with Austin refusing to pick a partner and opting to wrestle with his former tag team champion. At the end of the game, Dude Love who debuted out to offer help and Austin became the tag team champion twice. Austin resumed his feud with the Hart family, becoming involved in a hot rivalry with Owen Hart, who distracted Austin's attention and secured victory for The Hart Foundation in ten Tag Team main event matches In Your House 16: Canadian Stampede, where Austin partnered with Ken Shamrock, Goldust and The Legion of Doom.
At SummerSlam, Austin and Owen Hart face each other with Hart's Intercontinental Championship on the line and additional provisions that Austin should kiss Hart's ass if he loses. During the game, Hart failed in a helicopter hole and knocked Austin in his head, resulting in a legitimate neck fracture and temporary paralysis for Austin. As Hart stalled by the crowd's bait, Austin managed to crawl and pin Hart using a roll-up to win the Intercontinental Championship. Austin who looked wounded and confused assisted his leg by a number of referees and led back. Due to the severity of his neck injury, Austin was forced to let go of the Intercontinental Championship and Tag Team Championship. On September 22, 1997 at the first Raw Is War broadcast from Madison Square Garden, Hart gave a speech to the fans in attendance. During his speech, Austin entered the ring with the next five NYPD officers, and attacked Hart. Since it looks like Austin is going to fight officers, Vince McMahon runs into the ring to lecture Austin on why he can not compete physically. After telling McMahon that he respected the fact that he and WWF were concerned, Austin attacked McMahon with Stone Cold Stunner, making McMahon shocked. Austin was later arrested as part of the story line. Austin is ruled out until the Survivor Series. However, for a while he made several appearances, one of whom was at Badd Blood where he was involved in completing the match between Hart and Faarooq, who was the last game in the tournament for the Intercontinental Championship. Austin beat Faarooq with an Intercontinental Championship belt while the referee again changed, causing Hart to win the match. Austin's motive is to keep the Intercontinental Championship around Hart's waist, as shown when he interfered in Hart's match on the 20 and 27 October episode of Raw Is War. Austin returns Intercontinental Championship from Hart in Survivor Series.
With Hart out of the way, Austin directs his gaze on The Rock, who stole Austin's belt title on the November 17th episode of Raw Is War after Austin suffered a beating by his Nation of Domination stablemates. In the weeks to come, The Rock begins to declare itself as "the best damn Intercontinental champion ever". Rock continues to have the title belt up to D-Generation X: In Your House, when Austin defeats him to defend his title and get his title belt back. When Austin had used a pickup truck to help his victory, McMahon ordered him to defend his title against The Rock the next night at Raw Is War. In the act of defiance after losing the title to The Rock, Austin threw the title belt into the New Hampshire river.
Feud with Vince McMahon (1997-1999) With Bret Hart's controversial departure for WCW, Austin and Shawn Michaels are the top stars in the company. Austin won the Rumble Royal 1998, lastly eliminating The Rock. The following night at Raw Is War, Austin interrupted Vince McMahon in his presentation of Mike Tyson, who made a special appearance, over McMahon's objections that Tyson referred to as "the most evil on the planet". Austin overturned Tyson, which caused Tyson to drive Austin a lot to the shame of McMahon, who began openly disagreeing with Austin's prospects as his champion. Tyson was later announced as a "special enforcer" for the main event at WrestleMania XIV, though he seems to align himself with D-Generation X World Class Weight Shawn Michaels stable world. This led to a WWF World Heavyweight Championship Austin game against Michaels at WrestleMania XIV, which he won with the help of Tyson, who animated the DX by making a three-countdown decision against Michaels and then hitting him with his knock-out knock-out. This was Michaels's last match until 2002 when he experienced two legitimate disc herniations and the others were completely destroyed at the hands of The Undertaker in a coffin match at Royal Rumble. With the absence of Michaels and winning the WWF World Heavyweight title, Austin's Era was delivered.
On Raw Is War after Austin won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, Vince McMahon awarded him a new title belt and warned Austin that he did not approve of his rebellious nature and that things could be done "easy or hard way". Austin gave the answer in the form of another Stone Cold Stunner. This led to a segment a week later where Austin had promised a few days earlier in a meeting to "play ball" with McMahon, appearing in suits and ties, with beaming McMahon taking pictures of himself and his new company champion. The whole thing was a hoax by Austin who in the segment's journey began tearing up the lawsuit, telling McMahon it was the last time he would see Austin dressed like this, blowing his boss on "corporate grapefruits" and taking another picture of them both while McMahon doubled in pain. In April 1998, it seemed that Austin and McMahon would fight out their differences in actual matches, but the game was declared no contest when Dude Love made an appearance. This leads to a match between Dude Love and Austin at Unforgiven: At Your Home, where Austin hit McMahon with a steel chair, then the following month they do a rematch on Over the Edge: At Your Home for the WWF Championship. Austin successfully defended the title even though McMahon acted as the referee and "Company Stooges" (Gerald Brisco and Pat Patterson) as timekeepers and ring announcers, respectively. McMahon continued to do everything he could to ruin Austin and he finally scored a great victory for his team at King of the Ring, where Austin lost the WWF Championship to Kane in the First Blood game after the Undertaker intervened and hit him with a chair while the ref was not able, although Austin has made Kane unconscious and thwarted previous interventions by Mankind.
Austin got mad at McMahon by winning back the next night's championship on Raw Is War. Austin also emerged victorious against The Undertaker at SummerSlam. In response, McMahon arranged a Triple Threat game at Breakdown: In Your Home, where The Undertaker and Kane pinned Austin at the same time. McMahon decided to vacate the WWF Championship and award them based on a match between The Undertaker and Kane, where Austin is the guest referee. Austin refused to count for one of the men and attacked both of them towards the end of the game. McMahon then fired him, though Austin took his revenge by kidnapping McMahon and dragging him into the middle of the ring at gunpoint, eventually becoming a toy gun with a scroll that read "Bang 3:16". During that segment, McMahon also learned that Stone Cold was later re-signed by his son, Shane McMahon. In the semifinals of the Survivor Series tournaments to an empty WWF Championship award, Austin lost to Mankind after Shane crossed Austin twice. The following night at Raw Is War, Judge Mills Lane decided that The Rock had to defend the WWF Championship he had just won against Austin that night, as arranged in a new contract signed by Austin two weeks earlier with Shane. The Undertaker interrupts and hit Austin with a shovel, earning a winning disqualification Austin. However, since the title will not change hands through disqualification, The Rock still retains the championship. Under Rock: In Your Home, Austin defeated The Undertaker in a Buried Alive game after Kane performed Tombstone Piledriver at The Undertaker into the cemetery. With this victory, Austin qualified for the Royal Rumble 1999.
The next definitive chance of Austin to take revenge on Mr. McMahon took place at the 1999 Royal Rumble game. At Raw Is War, McMahon pulled Austin's number in with a clear intention to screw it up. Austin is number one, while McMahon is pulling number two thanks to WWF Commissioner Shawn Michaels. During the Royal Rumble game, McMahon came out of the ring and into the crowd as Austin chased after him. It turns out it was a trap when McMahon took Austin to the lobby restroom where he was ambushed by a member of the Corporations. Austin was injured and carried by ambulance. With Austin away and not in a Rumble match, McMahon joins the broadcaster's desk in calling the match. Then, however, Austin returns in the ambulance and re-enters Royal Rumble, giving Stone Cold Stunner to the Big Boss Man and eliminating it. With the help of The Corporation and last minute interruption from The Rock, Austin was eliminated by McMahon himself, who won the 1999 Royal Rumble.
With McMahon downplaying his number one spot against The Rock, WWF Michaels commissioner gave Austin a shot the following night on Raw Is War. At the St. Massacre Valentine, Stone Cold got a one-on-one match against McMahon in a steel cage game, with a WWF Championship chance at WrestleMania XV at stake. During the game, Paul Wight made his debut, breaking out from under the ring and attacking Austin. Wight's attack pushed Austin to the side of the cage that forced the cage to give way and drop Austin to the first floor, making it a winner. Austin beat The Rock at WrestleMania XV to win their third WWF Championship. Austin faces The Rock in a rematch at Backlash, where Shane McMahon is the referee. During the match, Vince McMahon approached the ring, only to hand Austin back to the title belt of his Smoke Skirt and take Shane out of the trial. Austin wins the match when another referee makes a count. Austin will lose the title for The Undertaker in Over the Edge. Because of the events surrounding Vince McMahon, Stephanie and Linda McMahon make Austin the company's Chief Executive Officer as part of the storyline. Vince and Shane McMahon challenged Austin for the disabled ladder match at King of the Ring with the title of CEO on the phone, won by father and son. The next night at Raw Is War, Austin confirmed that when he was the CEO of the company, he could have a shot title anytime and place that would be determined by himself. Austin made the WWF Championship match that night at Raw Is War and beat The Undertaker to win his fourth WWF Championship. However, after he won it The Undertaker came and hit him with a title belt, leading to a First Blood match between the two at Fully Loaded, where Mr. McMahon specifies that if Austin loses, he'll never be able to wrestle for the WWF Championship again, and if Austin wins he'll never see McMahon again. Austin wins after interruption from X-Pac, hitting The Undertaker with a TV camera and giving McMahon goodbye Stone Cold Stunner.
Feud with Triple H (1999-2001)
Austin holds the WWF Championships until SummerSlam when he loses it to Mankind in a triple-threat match also featuring Triple H. Triple H was originally scheduled to win his first championship at the event, but Austin refused to bring him down to him, believing Triple H has not been enough with the crowd, so Humans will be used as transitional champions, dropping titles to Triple H the next night at Raw Is War. Austin will get a rematch at No Mercy against Triple H, but he's lost after The Rock accidentally hit him with a hammer intended for Triple H. When the Survivor Series rolled around, Triple H was still the champion. Austin was booked into a Triple Threat match for the WWF Championships against Triple H and The Rock. However, Austin was hit by a car in the parking lot. Austin then underwent neck surgery by Dr. Lloyd Youngblood, due to Austin's injury from piledriver at SummerSlam two years earlier. He went for a nine-month rehab, with the angle of the car as his reason for leaving.
In April 2000, Austin appeared in Backlash, attacked Triple H and Vince McMahon to help The Rock reclaim the WWF Championship. After Austin's official return at Unforgiven, Commissioner Mick Foley led an investigation to find out who brought Austin to the Survivor Series a year earlier. Rikishi claimed to be the driver because "he did it for The Rock". Rikishi felt that Austin occupied the top position in the company and with him gone, Rock, fellow Samoa, would be able to climb to the top of the company. At No Mercy, Austin again faces Rikishi in the No Holds Barred game. During the game, Austin mentioned he would drive his truck to Rikishi, who at that time was a bloody mess. Before he could, he was stopped by officials, a match that was deemed to be no contest and Austin (kayfabe) was arrested and later redeemed by Foley Commissioner. During a handicap match against Rikishi and Kurt Angle, Triple H comes down with a clear intention to work with Austin. After clearing the rings, Triple H smashes the hammer's hammer over Austin's head, and reveals it's actually behind the entire scheme, designed to protect the WWF Championship from Austin and end his career. On the Survivor Series, Triple H had planned to run Austin back again during their game but the plot failed when Austin lifted the Triple H car with a forklift, then let it down 20 feet. Austin won his third Royal Rumble in January 2001, the last to get rid of Kane. His rival against Triple H ended in No Way Out in a Three Stages of Hell match, with Triple H defeating Austin two falling to one.
Power Trips of People and Alliances (2001-2002 )
With The Rock beating Kurt Angle for the WWF Championship at No Way Out, Austin is set to face The Rock at WrestleMania. In the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, animosity grew between Austin and The Rock, originating from Austin's wife, Debra, who was assigned to be The Rock's manager by Mr. McMahon, but was later freed from that role after failing to prevent a fight between Rock and Austin. At WrestleMania X-Seven, Austin faces The Rock for the second time and before the game begins it is announced that the game is not disqualified. In the middle during the game, Mr. McMahon runs into the ringside, then prevents The Rock from pinning Austin on two separate occasions and gives Austin a steel chair to hit The Rock with. Austin then hit The Rock several times with a seat and pinned him to win the WWF Championship for the fifth time. After the game, Austin celebrated by shaking hands with Mr. McMahon, twisting Austin's heels.
The next night at Raw Is War, after teasing her quickly, the heel bend continues and she also changes her character over the next few months, in deliberate changes from rebels and anti-establishment. a character beloved by fans, Austin became a whiny and temperamental prima donna who complains endlessly when he feels he does not get the respect of the fans and wrestlers he deserves. He also developed madness with McMahon, trying hard to impress him and even went so far as to embrace him and bring him presents. McMahon, though looking uncomfortable and alert with that attention, is still grateful to have Austin with him rather than against it. During a steel cage game with The Rock in a rematch for the title, Triple H came into the ring with a hammer and together with Austin cruelly attacked The Rock and made him out of action. Austin tightens his heels the next Thursday at SmackDown! When, during an interview with Jim Ross about his actions at WrestleMania, he thought Ross was denouncing their friendship and then started attacking and brutally attacking Ross. Austin and Triple H became the team and called themselves The Two-Man Power Trip.
Austin and Triple H are high heels in the company, and are at odds with The Undertaker and Kane. After defeating Kane and The Undertaker for the WWF Team Tag Championships at Backlash, they hold the tag team title, WWF Championships (Austin) and Intercontinental Championships (Triple H) at once. On the Day of Judgment, Triple H lost his Intercontinental title for Kane. The next night at Raw Is War, Austin and Triple H wrestle against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit with the tag team title on the phone. In mid-match, Triple H tore the quadriceps muscle. As planned, the team lost the tag team title at the end of the game when Triple H inadvertently hit Austin in the stomach with a sledgehammer but an injury to Triple H, which kept him out for the rest of the year, forcing WWF to go the other way. Austin officially disbanded The Power Trip that week SmackDown! , criticizing Triple H for his injury and for hitting him with a sledgehammer. He kept aligning himself with McMahon and started feuding with Jericho and Benoit himself, with Kurt Angle joining the group as a replacement for Triple H. For most of the next month leading to the King of the Ring, he was constantly the victim of multiple submissions involving Jericho Walls of Jericho and Benoit's Crippler Crossface, Austin did not wrestle as he treated the injury, but continued to clash with the ruling tag. champion team, ultimately sacrificing their title at SmackDown! precedes the King of the Ring against Dudley Boyz. Austin beat Jericho and Benoit in a Triple Threat game, despite the disruption of Booker T. Stone Cold who suffered a back injury during the game after Booker T dropped Stone Cold through the announcer's desk.
After King of the Ring, Austin was left without a feud because Benoit disappeared for the following year after neck surgery and Jericho moved on to other things. He started a small fight with Angle who became McMahon's biggest supporter. Meanwhile, the purchase of World Championship Wrestling (WCW) by McMahon began to bear fruit when The Invasion began. McMahon was unable to fight the attacking WCW wrestlers, and when they formed an alliance with a group of Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) alumni signed to the WWF and both Shane and Stephanie McMahon are now allied against their father, the McMahon empire begins to collapse and he gets no help from two of his biggest stars at the time. Austin made him know that he was opposed to working with Angle, whom Austin saw as a threat to his WWF Championship, and as an annoying sign. Finally, frustrated McMahon summoned Austin and demanded that he bring "the Old Stone Cold" back, even going as far as asking Austin to give him Stone Cold Stunner, so he can effectively captain the WWF wrestler team in ten years. man tag team match in InVasion pay-per-view in July. The sad Austin initially refused, but in the following episode Raw Is War he returned to his old ways and pressed Stunners on every member of the Alliance, facing again. At InVasion, Austin captained the WWF team consisting of himself, Angle, Jericho, and The Undertaker and Kane against WCW Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page and Rhyno and The Dudley Boyz teams from ECW. At the end of the game, however, since Angle had Booker at the key ankle, Austin turned on Angle by Stunning him and joined the Alliance, turning Austin's heels once again. The reason why Austin did this was that he felt McMahon was taking care of Angle to take his place, that he was trying to contact The Rock to return, and that he himself was "unappreciated" when McMahon insisted he go back to the old one. Austin. Austin soon made a new Alliance leader and began to quarrel with Angle over his WWF Championship.
Austin lost his title to Angle at Unforgiven by sending it to the key ankle, but began urging Angle for a rematch because his hand was under the rope. Austin received a rematch on October 8th episode Raw and won the title after WWF Commissioner William Regal betrayed Angle and joined the Alliance. Austin then began to fight with members of the Alliance Rob Van Dam, who was the only Alliance member to be shouted by fans despite the evil tactics of the group. Austin faces Angle and Van Dam at No Mercy that month and wins by pinning the latter. On October 29th episode Raw , Angle joins the Alliance and becomes the second strongest wrestler in the group. The Survivor series emerged and it was ultimately decided to have a victory with the Survivor Series winning series with the winning team being a surviving entity. Austin was selected for the Alliance team captain, consisting of Angle, Shane McMahon, Van Dam and Booker T, against the WWF team captained by The Rock, who returned the week after Austin's betrayal of WWF at InVasion. The Rock team includes Jericho, Kane, The Undertaker and Big Show.
At Survivor Series, Austin is one of the two last wrestlers in the game, with The Rock being the other, and is the last hope for the Alliance to survive. At the end of the game, Austin tries to win the game with Rock Bottom, Rock finishing maneuver, but fails to get three counts. He then kicked out of his Stone Cold Stunner, who nailed Rock to him, and attacked two referees including Nick Patrick's Alliance referee. With the officials descending, Angle ran to the ring and took the title belt of Austin. He then enters the ring and hits Austin with it, betrays the Alliance and allows The Rock to hit Rock Bottom in Austin for pin and victory. With that, InVasion ends, the Alliance is forced to disperse, and the future of Austin in the company is questionable. Eventually, McMahon decided he would strip Austin of the title and give it to Angle for his actions. Just before he could, Ric Flair returned to WWF for the first time since his departure in 1993 and announced that he is now half the owner of the company. Austin returned shortly after this announcement and attacked Angle and McMahon for their actions. He then hands over his title belt by Flair and celebrates it in the ring, making it overlook once again.
Flair then decided that Austin would be dealing with The Rock, who still has the WCW World Heavyweight Championship (renamed the World Championships), at the upcoming Vengeance pay-per-view in December to unite the title. However, since Austin is still hostile to Angle and Rock has an unresolved feud with Jericho over his own title, McMahon rejects Flair and says that the two men will wrestle with their respective rivals for their respective titles at Vengeance, with winners for each other face-to-face and the winner of the match will be named the undisputed WWF Champion. Austin won his first game by beating Angle and facing World Champion Jericho in a pool match. Austin lost the match and his title after McMahon and Booker T interfered. Soon afterwards, Austin and Booker T began to be hostile which led to fights in strange places, such as the confessional church, the bingo hall and the supermarket.
Starting in 2002, although the Austin character remains with WWF's most popular wrestler as the top face, the upcoming storyline in the build-up to WrestleMania is somewhat questionable compared to previous years. At Rumble Royal 2002, Triple H made his long-awaited return from injury, with him and Austin two of the last four participants in the ring along with Kurt Angle and Mr. Perfect. Austin was eliminated by Kurt Angle, but he immediately returned to the ring and hit all three with a steel chair. A few days later at Raw, he defeated Kurt Angle to get a shot at Chris Jericho's Unrivaled WWF Championship in No Way Out.
Final animosity and retirement (2002- 2003)
In the build-up to No Way Out, McMahon has re-signed the New World Order (nWo), which started a feud with him after (kayfabe) Austin refused a beer gift after they spent time for the match against Jericho. The creativity behind the scenes but then seems to be starting to surface. Austin is reportedly unhappy about Hulk Hogan's return to WWF, and reportedly refused to lose to Hogan in the proposed match at WrestleMania X8, while Hogan reportedly told McMahon the same thing about losing to Austin. In recent years, Austin has said this about why the game never happened: "I assure you, if my head is in a slightly different place, then with all the rights, [the match] should happen", Austin told JR. "Physically and mentally where I am, I can go.I think Hogan might be one or two steps behind that.It is unacceptable to me, and I do not want to slow myself down.I say it all with respect for the Hulk Hogan, because he has a frenzied run. It's my thought process back in that day.I do not think we can give it. "As a result, the match was billed again when The Rock beat Hogan, while Austin defeated Scott Hall, peaking his feud with nWo.
In a startling quarrel, the next night at Raw , Austin refused to show up and take a week's rest without the company's consent, claiming exhaustion. McMahon claimed his actions caused anger among the fans who had paid to see him that night. Austin is back on episode 1 April 2002 , the first of the new "brand extension" era. The show was centered on where he would sign, and he finally chose Raw. Austin enters a feud with The Undertaker resulting in the number one competitor match for the Undisputed WWF Championship at Backlash, which Austin lost despite his legs on the rope when he was pinched. He will then be betrayed by the Big Show, which then rejoins with nWo, and Ric Flair. Austin then defeated Big Show and Flair in a flawed match on Judgment Day. In an interview on WWE's main Internet program, Byte This! , in May 2002, Austin surprised companies and enthusiasts by launching a verbal attack toward the company heading and putting the creative team out of using him as he felt before. Commentators are struggling to keep Austin's opinion on a neutral wave, which causes WWE to apologize to fans for the explosion and declare that it is not part of the current or future Austin storyline. McMahon responded a week later at the same event as disrupting the explosion, claiming that Austin is just the kind of wrestler that is sometimes difficult to work with. WWE rehired Eddie Guerrero for Austin to fight, while also preparing Austin for his feud with Brock Lesnar. However, Austin vetoed every game that would result in him losing out to Lesnar and eventually leaving the company. Austin then explains that he thinks that hot-shotting a rookie makes Austin look weak and does not give Lesnar the right stage for a big win over a star as big as Austin. Further fanning the flames among a number of Austin critics is a domestic dispute incident published between Austin and his wife Debra (see below).
After Austin did not show the June 10 episode Raw , the storyline was canceled. Austin came out again, publicly declared that he felt a bad story line was presented to him by the creative team. This time his departure forever. McMahon, along with longtime Austin supporters and real-life Jim Ross friends, buried Austin on WWE programming, referring to him as "taking his ball and coming home" because he did not get his way, while also explaining to fans that either he or Ross was able to persuade Austin to change his mind. McMahon insists that Austin owes an apology to all the fans around the world, especially those who pay solely to meet him that night. McMahon toast to Austin's career with a beer thanking him for all his hard work. On the same night, the entrance theme of Austin was played during the segment in ring by Ric Flair, but it was diverted to the Eddie Guerrero theme and he entered the arena. The Rock also made an appearance on Raw that night, though it was designed for SmackDown! , and announced his frustration with Austin and threw a can of beer at McMahon. Austin merchandise continues to be sold within a few weeks of its departure, but without any sign of a possibility to be seen, the company stops marketing its character, merchandise, and removes its profile from WWE.com.
For the remainder of 2002, Austin remains low profile and does not make a public appearance. Reportedly, by the end of the year, Austin and McMahon meet and settle their differences. He then agreed to return to the company in early 2003. In an interview with WWE Raw Magazine, he announced his deep regret over the situation that led to his departure and the way he left, and more in regret over inaccurate speculation about his alleged revenge against another WWE wrestler, claiming he had no problem with Scott Hall rejoining the company. However, he admitted he still held strong objections about his bachelor match with Hall in WrestleMania lasting just seven minutes and felt the preparations for the game did not match the expectations of his fans or Hall, and were angered by speculation that he disagreed with Kevin Nash reuniting with the company, insisting he and Nash are always good friends. In an interview with Vince McMahon on his podcast in 2014, Austin revealed for the first time that McMahon had fined him $ 650,000 after returning, but he was able to reduce the amount to $ 250,000.
Austin claimed he had a major rift with Triple H's role in the company after returning in 2002, but insisted in 2003 they solved their problems. In addition, he claimed a brief dispute with The Rock was completed shortly after his return, and that there was no dispute with the list of continued talent or playing a major part in his departure. In February, Austin returned to No Way Out by defeating Eric Bischoff. Austin would wrestle only one match between then and WrestleMania in another short match against Bischoff at Raw , but was later defeated by The Rock at WrestleMania XIX, who returned at the same time as an arrogant, "sell" the villain, who, finally, became Austin's last official game at WWE. The night after at Raw , Austin was fired on the street story by Bischoff for medical reasons. The next day, Austin gave an interview on WWE.com announcing his resignation from wrestling, though he stated that he and Vince McMahon had reached an agreement saw it only appear in non-wrestling roles every week. In reference to Bischoff shooting it on Raw that week, he said that although the shoot is for the purpose of the storyline, he acknowledged the medical issue read out on Raw was legal and was primarily related back to an injury he suffered at SummerSlam in a match with Owen Hart in August 1997, and has started to plague seriously since the end of 2001. He confessed to wrestling against the advice of his doctor until his departure in 2002, which forced him to stop wrestling, calling it one the only reason why he suddenly left, with doctors suggesting an awkward or abusive act committed to him could result in Austin becoming permanently disabled or resulting in death.
Sheriff of Raw (2003-2004 )
The following week, Austin started his wrestling career with WWE and started a fresh story line when he was brought back by Linda McMahon as General Manager of the Raw. He continued this storyline for the rest of the year, still showing wrestling moves including Stone Cold Stunner and some exchange punches and kicks, though limiting this regularity was done. On November 17, 2003, Austin's "Raw episode" was fired "from Raw as a result of a fixture in a match at the Survivor Series where a team of Austin-selected wrestlers failed to defeat the Bischoff wrestler team. After the Survivor Series, Mick Foley will become the new Co-General Manager of Raw , and start a petition (kayfabe) to get Austin back in power. Austin quickly returned to WWE television before the end of 2003 when he became part of the Tribute to the Troops directly recorded in front of US troops in Iraq, posing and attacking Mr. McMahon. He returned to Raw on December 29 as his "sheriff", gave Stone Cold Stunner to Eric Bischoff and reinstated Shawn Michaels, who had just been "fired" by Bischoff.
Austin appeared in-and-off as 2004 started, culminating in him becoming a special guest referee for the Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg game at WrestleMania XX. On April 17th, WWE announced that they could not settle an old contract dispute with Austin and had re-separated. Sporadic (2005-present) appearance
Austin made his first appearance on WWE programming in a year at WrestleMania 21 where he was confronted by Roddy Piper at Piper's Pit until Carlito interrupted to insult them. This resulted in Carlito receiving a beautiful from Austin and Piper throwing him out of the ring. The segment ends with Austin and Piper celebrates with beer until Austin gives Piper a Stone Cold Stunner too. Austin was involved in the closing segment at ECW One Night Stand where he held a beer party with the ECW dressing room and fought with the anti-ECW invaders, led by Eric Bischoff. He's back at Raw Homecoming, escorting Stone Cold Stunners to Mr. McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Linda McMahon. A corner including Jim Ross was fired causing a match in which Austin agreed to face Jonathan Coachman at Taboo Tuesday, with Ross's provision regaining his job announcing Austin had won and Austin losing his own job had him lost. Austin injured his back before the game and could not wrestle unless he was given heavy medication, so the match was canceled. To explain his failure to appear on Taboo Tuesday, Vince McMahon told Raw that Austin had been involved in an accident, preventing him from competing. Batista replaces Austin, defeating Coachman along with Vader and Goldust. The provision was dropped because Austin did not compete. He returned to WWE briefly to face John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL) in a beer drinking contest on March 5, 2006, the episode of Main Event Saturday Night . The rule for the match is that if Lashley loses, Donald Trump's head gets shaved, and if Umaga loses, Mr. McMahon will suffer that fate. During the game, Austin drove the Stone Cold Stunners to Umaga, Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, and Donald Trump. Lashley won the game and Trump, Austin and Lashley then shaved Mr. McMahon. Austin ended up hitting Stone Cold Stunner at McMahon, as well as Donald Trump. She later appeared in a video on the June 11th episode of Raw as part of Mr. McMahon's "Award Tonight", where she shared her thoughts about her past encounter with McMahon. Austin appeared on the August 18, 2007 episode of the Main Event Saturday Night , as an illegitimate son probably from Mr. McMahon and stunned McMahon and Jonathan Coachman. He later appeared in SummerSlam to help Matt Hardy in the battle of Montel Vontavious Porter in a beer drinking contest. The match ended without a contest after Austin handed over beer to MVP and gave him Stone Cold Stunner. Austin made another appearance on Cyber ââSunday, where he became the referee of the World Heavyweight Championship match between Batista and The Undertaker. On November 5th episode Raw , Austin made an appearance to face Santino Marella for criticizing The Condemned. The argument ends when Marella receives Stone Cold Stunner from Austin, who then walks backstage only to return with a Budweiser beer truck to spray Marella and her maid Mary with beer. Austin appeared on special Raw 15th Anniversary, attacking Vince McMahon. On October 26, 2008, on Cyber ââSunday, Austin was the special guest referee during a match between Batista and Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship.
On January 12, 2009, the episode of Raw , Austin was announced to be the first member of the WWE Hall of Fame class 2009. He was sworn in by his long-screen rival Vince McMahon, who called Austin "the largest WWE [wrestler] all the time". During the induction, Austin said he officially closed the door on his wrestling career and started a new chapter in his life.
Austin emerged as the host of Raw guests on March 15, 2010, the episode, in which he moderated the signing of a contract between Vince McMahon and Bret Hart for their match at WrestleMania XXVI. On the March 7th episode of Raw , Austin interrupted the signing of a contract from the guest guest of the referee for the matches of Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler at WrestleMania XXVII, originally scheduled to be John "Bradshaw" Layfield; Austin attacked Layfield and signed a contract instead. Although Lawler was won by submission, General Manager Rawal Anonymous reversed the decision and disqualified Lawler, claiming that Austin had "exceeded his authority". He appeared on Raw the next night with players from Tough Enough, while also engaging in quarrels with The Miz and Alex Riley. On the June 6th episode of Raw , Austin appears to declare Andy Leavine the winner of
