The Daytona Sportscar (sometimes referred to as 'Daytona Coupe') is a reproduction made in Australia from the Shelby Daytona coupon from 1964. Built by Richard Bendell, designed by Ross Holder and chassis builder is Michael Borland. So far eight have been built, by racing car builders Victorian Borland Racing Developments, with the first car built in 2001. Have competed in several Australian tarmac parades since, including Targa Tasmania and Targa West
As with Shelby Daytona, this car has a similarity to Ford Shelby GR-1 , a 2005 concept car based on the same 1964 model.

Specifications
With a weight of 1100 kg, it is powered by a 6.0 liter (360 ina) LS1 Gen. III V8, which is also used in Holden Monaro. The highest speed is 290 km/h. The chassis is a specially made space frame. As well as engines, cars use mainly SS Holden Commodore components including brakes, wheels, differentials, steering columns and controls. It has traction control and ABS braking system.

Fatal accident
Australian car racing champion Peter Brock died in Daytona (coincidentally by the original Shelby Daytona designed by Peter Brock) owned by Richard Bendell in the West Targa rally on September 8, 2006, when he left the road and crashed into a tree.
