" Ramsay Street crashes " is the storyline of the Australian soap television opera Neighbor , which begins on August 20, 2012 when six teenage characters are involved in a car accident. Executive producer, Richard Jasek, revealed the storyline during a July 2012 interview, stating that the consequences will last for the rest of the year. It was then announced that the storyline would focus on two major causes of road death and injury among young Australian drivers - car disruption and overload. In "Ramsay Street crash" it is peer pressure that determines the fate of a character. The cast and crew filmed a two-night accident scene at a driver training center in Melbourne. The shooting plan started six weeks earlier and some cameras were used to capture the various angles of the accident. A promotional trailer for the storyline was released on July 27th.

Plot sees teen characters; Andrew Robinson (Smith Smith), Chris Pappas (James Mason), Ed Lee (Sebastian Gregory), Natasha Williams (Valentina Novakovic) and Summer Hoyland (Jordy Lucas) headed to a concert in town, initially unaware that Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) has hidden himself in the trunk of the car. After finding Sophie, Chris reluctantly agrees to let her go with them. An argument broke, distracting Chris and ultimately causing him to lose control of an overloaded car. Andrew falls unconscious and Sophie is thrown from the car, passing by Doctor Rhys Lawson (Ben Barber) suffering from an injury that ended his career in his hands. The development then sees Chris being sued by Uncle Sophie and Andrew diagnosed with epilepsy. The reception for "Ramsay Street Crash" is positive, with one critic calling it the most dramatic storyline of the year.

Plot

On his birthday, Andrew Robinson (Jordan Smith) received two checks for the sale of mobile apps he helped with Natasha Williams (Valentina Novakovic) and Ed Lee (Sebastian Gregory). Andrew tries to tell Natasha that he's selling the app without his knowledge, but decides to wait until the next day. Natasha, Chris Pappas (James Mason) and Summer Hoyland (Jordy Lucas) gave Andrew tickets to see The Jezabels in town that night. Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) also plans to attend the concert, but her uncle, Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), forbids him to leave because he has not finished his homework. Andrew and his friends meet outside on Ramsay Street to put their things in the car Chris and Andrew expressed his unhappiness that Ed is coming. While the group spoke, Sophie slipped out of her house and into the unseen luggage of Chris's car.

During the trip, the phone starts to ring, but the group can not know who it is. Ed believes that the ringing comes from the boot, so Chris pulls into the side of the road. The group finds Sophie in the trunk and tries and finds out what to do with her. Summer shows that Chris takes him home, while Ed offers to call a cab and get back with him. Andrew, desperate not to miss the concert, asks Chris to take him in the car, despite knowing that there is no reserve belt. Chris reluctantly agrees and Sophie sits on the lap of Summer. Summer asked what time the Jezabel was on stage and Andrew mentioned that he wrote it on his ticket, which was in his wallet in a Summer bag. While Summer is looking for tickets, he finds two checks inside and asks Andrew about them. She tries to get her wallet back, but Summer finds a check for $ 25,000 and Natasha realizes she has sold the app.

An argument broke out between Natasha and Andrew, which Summer and Ed follow. Ed asks Andrew how he sold the app without Natasha's signature and they all realize he's faking it. Chris struggles to stay focused and asks everyone to calm down, while Natasha wants him to stop the car. He then decides to call the police and Andrew grabs her back to stop him, but elbows Chris's arms causing him to lose control of the car. It runs from the road and touches the embankment, before flipping it and comes to rest upside down. Natasha pulls Ed from the wreckage, while Chris helps a surprising Summer and then returns to check out Andrew who is unconscious. On the way home, Rhys Lawson (Ben Barber) drove past the crash site and was marked by Natasha. He called an ambulance and started assessing everyone. Rhys told Chris to keep the others warm and awake.

When he helps Andrew, Rhys cuts his hand on the ruins. Sophie lay unseen and unconscious on the grass a few feet from the car. After the ambulance took the others to the hospital, Rhys and a police officer heard the phone ring and went to look for him. Rhys then finds Sophie and she is rushed to the hospital, where Paul and his sister, Kate Ramsay (Ashleigh Brewer), are waiting. Natasha, Summer and Chris were treated for minor injuries, while Andrew recovered from a serious head injury. Ed has cracked his collarbone and Sophie has a cracked hip and an internal injury. Rhys's hands are treated by Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) and he tells his girlfriend, Vanessa Villante (Alin Sumarwata), that their journey to Japan is inactive. Ed wakes up with Natasha by his side and they share their first kiss. Sophie's heart stopped, but Karl managed to stabilize herself. He then tells Kate and Paul to prepare themselves for the worst.

Chris has his SIM suspended and Paul then announces that he sued him. Natasha and Summer stated that they blamed Andrew for the accident and he was ostracized from the group. Chris attended the court where he was fined and informed that his license would be suspended for six months. She went to visit Sophie and told Paul that she would not be pushed by him, before lying down beside her bed. Karl realizes that Summer has been traumatized by the accident and helped him out by pushing him to get into another car. He then told Rhys that it was destroyed that he had suffered severe nerve damage in his hands, as a result of the cuts, and there was only a five percent chance of full recovery. Andrew suffered headaches, dizziness and fainting after the accident. She eventually seeks help and is diagnosed with epilepsy, which she keeps a secret from her friends and family.

A few days after he woke up, Paul sent Sophie to a rehab clinic in Sydney. Andrew bought some drugs online to control the symptoms of epilepsy, which Aidan Foster (Bobby Morley) advised him not to take. Chris was asked by his lawyer to collect witness statements from everyone involved in the accident, but Andrew refused to give it one. However, Paul was forced to cancel the suit when Andrew admitted that the accident was his fault. She makes up with Chris, while Summer and Natasha initially keep their distance. Sophie returns from rehab and can walk with the help of crutches, but she struggles to be around her friends. She later confessed to Chris that she blamed herself for the accident, but declared that it was not her fault. Months later, Chris suffered a flashback to the accident, causing him to admit that he was struggling to get back behind the wheel.

Production

Announcements and concepts

Executive producer Neighbor , Richard Jasek, teases the storyline of an accident during the July 2012 interview with Digital Spy's Daniel Kilkelly. Jasek stated that the show has a "dramatic upcoming storyline", which will have consequences that last for the rest of the year. He told Kilkelly, "All I can say is 'gangs should not be out that night...'" A writer for the Channel 5 Neighboring website later revealed that the storyline would highlight "two of the main causes deaths and road injuries among young Australian drivers - distractions and overloaded cars. "Jasek told the authors that when the team was planning a story, they were surprised to find out how common for young drivers to be persuaded to allow more passengers in the car than to be allowed laws and how easily they are disturbed. In the storyline the show is peer pressure that determines the fate of the character. Jasek explains "Ironically the driving character is the most responsible of all our teenagers but gives in to pressure to allow one passenger too much. This is one decision that at that time seems quite harmless because they are not traveling very far but like life situations real, distance has nothing to do with it. "

Filming

Jasek revealed to TV's Jackie Brygel that planning for a "dramatic" episode began six weeks before the crash scene was filmed. The shooting took sixteen hours to complete and the scenes were filmed for two nights at the Melbourne METEC Driver Training Center. James Mason (Chris Pappas) told Brygel that the crew put a lot of time and effort into getting the right scene. He revealed that when scenes are usually filmed on location, two cameras are used, but for crash storyline crews use five to six cameras at the same time to capture different angles. He called the filming "fantastic" and then explained to Sarah Ellis's Inside Soap Sarah Ellis, "It looked like a movie set, with many emergency vehicles, and it was shot at night so the place was lit up like a Christmas tree. two identical cars, because we had to really destroy one of them. "An acrobat player who specializes in car crash scenes also works on shooting. Jordy Lucas (Summer Hoyland) commented that being off-site "is very exciting" for casting the movie all but the street scene in the studio's Nunawading show. Jordan Smith (Andrew Robinson) added that the filming of the scene affected the cast, and said, "It makes us all stop and think.I think we all go home very slowly that night!"

Development

To celebrate Andrew Robinson's birthday, Ramsay Street teenagers decided to attend a concert in town. Andrew, Natasha (Valentina Novakovic), Summer and Ed (Sebastian Gregory) get into Chris's car earlier in the night, unaware that Sophie Ramsay (Kaiya Jones) is hiding in the boot, after revolting against his uncle's decision to ban him from attending the concert. Along the way, the group hears a mysterious ring coming from the back of the car and when Chris pulls her, she finds Sophie hiding in the trunk with her phone. Andrew just wanted to go to a concert, so he persuaded Chris to let Sophie sit on Summer's lap. Chris "reluctantly agrees" knowing that she will not have a seat belt. Mason reveals "Chris is a wise and straightforward person who knows the rules - good morals. The last thing he wants to do is jeopardize the safety of others by doing something ridiculous, but he talks to burden the car by letting Sophie join them, He wants to please his friends and make sure everyone is happy - and that does not help the whole group using a little peer pressure to convince him.The others do not see any danger in themselves doing it. "Shortly after the resumption of their journey, a debate fiercely broke out between Natasha and Andrew when she found out that she had sold their gambling app without her permission.

Summer and Ed join the argument and there are many screams. Lucas explained, "Summer knows that they're overloaded, so he wants to stay calm, he can feel Chris getting depressed by all the shouts, so he's very tense." When Chris tried to concentrate on the road, Andrew accidentally crashed into his arm and he suddenly lost control of the car, which banked, touched the embankment and flipped it before it stopped. Sophie was seriously injured after being thrown from the vehicle, while Andrew suffered a serious head injury and Ed was also in poor condition. Rhys Lawson (Ben Barber) came on the scene and put his own life at risk to start a "panic" rescue effort. He cuts his hand in the process, but refuses to see it when emergency services arrive. Rhys finally finds Sophie and when she gets to the hospital, she gets surgery. A writer for Soap World commented that Natasha's "fear" was worried Ed would not wake up before he could say that he loved her. Mason states that Chris suffered a sense of guilt and worry about his friends. Things got worse for him when Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) arrived at the hospital and, after learning of his son and nephew in serious condition, threatened to sue him. Mason reveals that Paul is angry and wants someone to pay for what happened, while Dennis explains "Yes, that's typical Paul - someone has to pay and he decides that Chris should take all the mistakes before he knows the full story."

Chris was questioned by the police about the accident. Summer and Natasha later admitted that they blamed Andrew for the accident and he was slowly expelled from the group. Sophie's condition began to improve, but she faced a "long recovery" and was sent to Sydney to receive treatment. A sustained Rhys hand injury forced him to cancel his upcoming trip to Japan. Her boyfriend, Vanessa Villante (Alin Sumarwata) persuaded her to have her injured hands examined and she had to undergo a minor surgery. Rhys then has some tests done in his hands and is told that he only has a five percent chance of a full recovery. Barber reveals "He's crushed - being a surgeon is the most important thing to him and he has no plan B. This is the man who manipulates himself in the surgical program, it means a lot to him." The accident also affected Andrew's future when he was diagnosed with epilepsy. Andrew began to display "alarming neurological symptoms" including; dizziness, severe headache, and creasing. Smith told Brygel: "To start with Andrew, just ignore the symptoms, he blames them for the accident, he does not want to investigate things, but there is a point where he can not ignore them again." Despite being urged to tell his family and friends about the diagnosis, Andrew tries to sort it out on his own. When Ed finally wakes up, Natasha "wastes no time" to tell how she really feels about him and they share a kiss. All About Soap Claire Crick asked, "Could this tragedy finally bring them together properly?"

Reception

Jovita O'Shaughnessy received a Guild Director of the Australian nomination for Best Direction in the TV Drama Series for Episode 6472, which featured after the accident. Brygel stated that the crash at Ramsay Street "is undoubtedly the most dramatic and shocking storyline so far this year so far". Sarah Ellis from Inside Soap named the storyline "Nightmare on Ramsay Street" and called the accident "horrible". Jaci Stephen of Daily Mail writes "How often should I say it? Get a flam driving lesson! Is anyone really able to take to the streets without ending in a car accident?" He believed that it was "just as good" that Rhys injured his hand, forcing him to cancel his journey to Japan as "the plane may fall." Stephen continued, "At least, on Wednesday, SIM Chris is suspended, if only the same can happen to the rest of the Erinsborough population." Anthony D. Langford from AfterElton stated, "I really enjoyed this last week's Neighbor." The crash and the aftermath are made for some really powerful stories and I'm surprised at how prominent Chris is in the storyline. " Digital Spy's Daniel Kilkelly branded the accident as "the biggest episode of the year".

A reporter from Sunday Mercury said, "What we think might happen to a car filled with teenagers? It crashes, of course, and Sophie is badly hurt." Carena Crawford from All About Soap commented "Wow, Neighbor is more than a little dramatic today with a big car accident that put Sophie's life in danger - will she survive?" The author goes on to say that the accident would have "wide-ranging consequences for everyone" and try to figure out who to blame, before adding "Whoever the fault is, we can not wait to see what happens next!" A reporter for TVTimes stated: "With more road accidents in this Oz patch than anywhere else in the world, Sophie is asking for trouble when she crashes into Chris's car, which is already teeming with teenagers thanks to Andrew's urgency." Dianne Butler, writing for news.com.au, thought the police were doing a "half-baked investigation into a car accident", allowing Paul to sue Chris. The storyline is included in Inside Soap Yearbook 2013 as one of "The best bit of September". It was also called "Crash of the month". The accident was nominated for Best Storyline in the year-end Digital Spy reader poll for 2012, it received 5.5% of the vote.
